Founded in 2024, the Society of St Osmund works to promote the study and practise of the Sarum Rite within the Roman Catholic Church. Membership is open to practising members, laity and clergy, of the Roman Catholic Church.Â
We believe the Sarum Rite is a vitally important part of England's long and venerable ecclesiastical and liturgical history.
The Sarum Rite, or the Use of Salisbury, is an ancient liturgical rite of the Roman Catholic Church in England. Used widely before the Reformation, interest in the Use has resurged since the 1920s.
Before the Reformation, it was used widely in Churches across England, and had a great influence on post-Reformation liturgical books, such as the Book of Common Prayer.
