The Society of St Osmund
Founded in 2024, the Society of St Osmund works to promote the study and practise of the Sarum Rite within the Roman Catholic Church.
We believe the Sarum Rite is a vitally important part of England's long and venerable ecclesiastical and liturgical history.
Membership of the Society of St Osmund is open to practising members, laity and clergy, of the Roman Catholic Church.
Who was St Osmund, Patron of Our Society?
Who was St Osmund, Patron of Our Society?
St Osmund was chosen as the namesake and patron of our Society for multiple reasons.
Firstly, St Osmund was the Bishop of Salisbury, who sits at Salisbury Cathedral, the birthplace of the Sarum Rite. He is the only canonised Bishop to have sat in the See of Salisbury, and therefore has a particular importance to those who wish to revive the liturgy of his See.Â
St Osmund was chosen as the namesake and patron of our Society for multiple reasons.

St Osmund is buried in Salisbury Cathedral. His Feast is celebrated on the 4th of December, and the Feast of the Translation of the Relics of St Osmund on the 16th of July.
The Society of St Osmund hopes, in the future, to organise a pilgrimage to the Cathedral, to pray at his, for the success of our Society, and for the restoration of the Sarum Rite.

Osmund, Confessor and Bishop, mercifully grant us, at the intercession of him whose Translation we keep, both to glorify Thee in this present world, and to enjoy Thy presence in that which is to come. Through Christ, our Lord. Amen.
